Pittsburg Event Updates!

“Jesus cared about poverty, hunger, homelessness, racism, sexism and other forms of injustice,” said Melissa Roberts, Parsons, event co-facilitator. “As his followers, Christians are called to respond to these social issues today as much as ever. The recession is hitting everyone hard, and southeast Kansas is hurting. I live here, and I know the struggles of this region. But I also know that God is calling together all Christians to put aside our differences to bring hope to us all.”

Our March 3 event in Pittsburg has been picked up by the Pittsburg Morning Sun and the Good News regional newspaper for Southeast Kansas. Check out the stories to see a bit more about what we’ll be doing:

Welcome

Kansas Ecumenical Ministries is being renewed to continue the work of the Church in Kansas! After a visioning process, we have new leadership and a new vision. We are ready to move boldly into the future, listening for the new thing that God is doing.

We seek to be a statewide movement of diverse yet unified Christians, informed by local grassroots energy as well as secular and interfaith partners, committed to fostering a common ministry that addresses issues of justice that affect the lives of Kansans.

During this time of transition, we are planning a number of ways to involve leaders from across the state in building grassroots ecumenical Christian community in Kansas. We will be developing this website over the coming months to use as a tool to connect us with one another.
